Youth Basketball Club

El Paso Basketball

It's time to lace up those high tops and hit the hardwood with El Paso Basketball. Yes, get ready for a fun and challenging environment supervised by a coaching staff that will inspire you to be your best. Whether you're an advanced player or beginner, we welcome anyone who is interested in joining our basketball club. Our programs are designed to inspire young boys and girls to participate in the great sport of basketball. We offer something for everybody!

Training

Traditionally, El Paso basketball organizations have remained strong among private clubs, schools and colleges. Although training methods vary among organizational types, we remain committed to our own training methods that we know are effective. Our methods of training are innovative, inspiring, and one in which will motivate young athletes to strive to meet the challenges set by their coaches.

We believe that general fitness training is beneficial in achieving good overall health. We incorporate basic training methods that increase strength, speed, balance, cardio and flexibility. Good eating and sleeping habits are also encouraged.

Practices

El Paso basketball is supervised by coaches and trainers who are qualified to teach and organize events. We have formulated what we believe to be an effective practice schedule that is structured around teaching the basics of dribbling, passing and shooting, and also learning the rules and regulations of the game.

Schedule

Practice schedules are set for a regular routine. Team members are encouraged to attend every practice on time and ready to workout. The number of weekly workouts are important, so players will need to show up in the gym multiple times a week. The workouts sessions are dedicated to 100% skill development and cover shooting, ball handling, passing and defense.

We try our best to keep you interested in our schedule, so we make sure to update it on a regular basis. Updates are applied to the schedule of regular games, tournaments, playoffs and meetings. We hope our schedule is enough to get you excited about upcoming events, and we are always trying our best to keep you interested. El Paso Basketball is always on the move, and as a result, we are always updating our schedule to keep you up-to-date with all activities.

Competition

Operating under the official name of "Team Fusion," our competitive events take us all over the U.S to play in various leagues. Events include a wide range of age groups for tournament, playoff and championship game levels. Trophies are provided, and medals to players 1st 2nd and 3rd in each division.

Goals

We start by establishing milestones that gradually get us to where we want to be. By setting milestones, the vision of our goals becomes stronger and stronger. In time, we are encouraged to keep reaching for higher levels. Team Fusion aims to turn young athletes into well-rounded individuals by encouraging them to set and meet goals, thus empowering them to meet the challenges of tomorrow.

Our philosophy embraces a "whole person" concept. We strive to motivate our members to prepare themselves for the demands of a physical sport and encourage them to meet their own personal challenges at home as well. Setting goals and meeting personal challenges is important, and strongly influenced through the guidance of our professional coaching staff. Overall, we want to provide a comprehensive schedule that includes training, competition, and travel, with special emphasis on motivation and sportsmanship.

Organization

Today, our basketball club has reached a legitimate "club-level" organization that offers young boys and girls a way to get involved and pursue an active sport. We currently consist of 30+ girls and guys, and a staff of 9 members consisting of coaches, physical trainers, physicians and administrators. In 2014, our name officially changed to "Team Fusion," and now our influence reaches deep into parts of Texas and New Mexico. We consistently strive to grow and improve, and continues to invite new members. Read more about us here»

Basketball Camp

We promote physical activity by developing the minds and bodies of young athletes on and off the court. El Paso basketball camps are designed to teach the overall aspects of the sport by combining actual practice sessions with classroom instruction. The practice sessions are conducted out on the court and include the physical disciplines needed for strength, balance and control. The classroom studies focus on teaching play strategies, game rules and league regulations.

Lee Williams - Owner

Owner Lee Williams is the former head coach for the boys basketball team at Horizon High School where he was named the school's first ever head coach in 2004. His teams quickly became competitive. After suffering through the growing pains of an inaugural season with no seniors and only one junior, he quickly had Horizon in a playoff contention for the program's 2nd year.

Currently, Lee owns and operates an El Paso basketball group of male and female players, coaches, physical trainers, promoters and administrators. In 2014, the club accomplished it's first major milestone and now reaches into Texas and New Mexico.

Alumni

Our organization supports its players even after they leave. Players that no longer play for us are still in the hearts and minds of the staff. They will always be part of the alumni roster. We know that there will always be players that come and go, but we remain steadfast in our support for alumni members after they leave by encouraging them to remain committed to attending alumni meetings and events. They continually remind us of the bonds created from their willingness to learn, and we will continue to remind them that they will never be lost in our memory. Indeed, we remember their commitment toward the team and the passion they had for the sport of basketball.

El Paso Basketball History

There's more history behind El Paso sports than you might think. Remember the 1947 El Paso High School State Basketball Championship? The 1966 NCAA Men's Division I Basketball Tournament? The 1976 Eastwood High School State Basketball Champs? Yes, the City of El Paso has created some bright spots in it's own sports history, and Team Fusion has been a small part of it. Even though we're still in the process of creating our legacy, we plan on hanging in there for a good stretch longer.

1965–66 Texas Western Miners Basketball Team

The 1965-66 basketball season will always be remembered as a turning point in College basketball, and especially for the UTEP basketball organization. It all began on a Saturday night in Memorial Gym when Texas Western opened the season and beat Eastern New Mexico 89-38. Coach Don Haskins and the Miners went on their winning streak and made history by winning the 1966 NCAA Men's Division I Basketball Tournament.
